Setting up ALLFIX with TriBBS 5.11 and 10.0
****** TriBBS and TriToss are copyright (C) TriSoft and Mark Goodwin.*******
************************
With the ever growing popularity of TriBBS it became essential to make All-
fix compatible with TriBBS. This text file will go over the entire settings
in asetup. Please follow them carefully and you should not have any prob-
lems.
First of all Allfix allows full uplink capabilities. If you send an Allfix
request to your uplink and your uplink does not have that particular fillecho,
ALLFIX has the ability to send an uplink request to HIS/HER uplink and so on
down the line. Allfix can generate New File Reports which can be sent via
netmail or to message echoes. It can also scan TriBBS' FILES.LST and gener-
ate FILEFIND reports in message echoes, allowing other users to find a part-
icular file.
Allfix also has the capability of adding a FILE_ID.DIZ to an archive if the
archive doesn't contain one. With Allfix you will never have to worry about
seeing a "No Description" ever again.
Now let's go into the basic setup for TriBBS. NOTE: IN ORDER TO PROPERLY
USE ALLFIX AND TRIBBS YOU NEED TRIDOG IF YOU WANT TO GENERATE MESSAGES IN-
TO ECHOES! SINCE TRITOSS WRITES DIRECTLY INTO THE MESSAGE CONFERENCES YOU
NEED ALLFIX TO MAKE .MSG MESSAGES AND HAVE TRIDOG IMPORT AND EXPORT THEM.
IF YOU USE GEcho, FOR EXAMPLE, YOU CAN USE THE PKT INTERFACE OPTION BUT
YOU STILL NEED TRIDOG TO IMPORT AND EXPORT MESSAGES. BOTH SETUPS WILL BE
DISCUSSED.
General Setup:
When you type asetup you'll get this menu:

Here is one of Allfix's prime functions. The uplink manager will be the main
node from which you receive most of your files. If you have any downlinks and
they request fileechoes that you don't have, Allfix will automatically send a
message to your uplink with the echo request. Here is a sample setup:
╒══════════════════════════════════════ AreaMgr uplinks ╕

╘════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
With these settings a downlink would send an Allfix message to turn on a
particular echo. If that echo is not present, Allfix has the capability
to send an Allfix message to the listed uplink. Turning on this setting
will be discussed in the Node Manager setup.
Note the Add '+' prefix. This will automatically add a + prior to the name
of the fileecho requested. If your uplink is also using Allfix this is a
must! If the uplink is using another type of fileecho processor with up-
link capabilities find out what is required to send an automated message.

Pathnames
Here is were you define all the paths Allfix needs to search. Most of these
are self-explanatory.

│ Tic path C:\FD\TICS\ │
│ Queue path D:\QUEUE\ │
│ DB queue │
│ │
╘══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
Netmail, of course, is the directory were your netmail is. Netmail out
should be left blank unless you have a mailer that requires one. Inbound
is the directory were all your files come in via the mailer. You don't
need to fool around with the Sec Inbound unless you actually have one.
Outbound should also be left blank unless, again, your mailer supports
one. All the settings shown here and througout are based using Front Door
version 2.12. PKT in, for the most part, can be left blank. Front Door
looks in your Inbound for PKT in. PKT out is used if you want Allfix
to create .PKT packets as opposed to .MSG messages. GEcho supports this
type of interface. Tic path is were Allfix will store any tic files you
as an uplink will be hatching out. THIS IS NECESSARY!. Queue path is the
directory were Allfix will send any files to downlinks in their original
state. If you are receiving files which you are converting to another ar-
chive but you want to send them in the original state to your downlink this
is essential. IN FACT FUTURE VERSIONS OF ALLFIX WILL BE USING THIS AS A
WORK DIRECTORY ALSO SO PUT ONE IN! Last but not least leave DB queue
blank.
* This is undocumented but if you want to try setting PKT out directory
the same directory as your outbound mail directory in tritoss you can
conceivably use the .PKT interface in ALLFIX with the FILEFIND. Allfix
sends a message with your fake address to ALLFIX with .PKT.

╘══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
Allfix needs to know were to send BAD files to. The BAD tics directory takes
care of that. If you also leave Dupe path blank, Allfix will send duplicate
files to the Bad tics directory. This is up to you. Tmp path is were allfix
will do most of its work. Template directory is were allfix looks for all its
template files (essential). Auto add (Registered Only) is were Allfix will
place any new fileecho directory if one is listed. If this is left blank Al-
fix will sort thru the Group Manager (explained later) in search of the proper
assigned directory. Don't even worry about Billing and Old Bills.

Filefind system
As previously stated, Allfix has the capabilites to search all your file areas
with the use of a keyword or the exact name of the file. This feature is
fully explained in the .DOC. Here is a sample setting:

╘═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
In order for this feature to work you need to add the Fido echo FILEFIND
to your system. Here users from all over the world make Allfix requests
looking for particular files or keynames. Sending Allfix Filefind requests
is fully documented in the .DOC.
In order to utilize this feature with TriBBS you MUST use TRIDOG!
Here is a sample TRIDOG.CFG to import and export FILEFIND replies:
tribbs=c:\tribbs
address=1:261/1367
tagline=LOPEZVILLE BBS** FILEFIND Requests ** Hydes, MD. USA
conf=102,c:\fd\filefind
The allfix command to do the search is allfix scan or allfix s. More on
command lines later. After scan is run you must then run tridog to import/
export responses. Remember, you CANNOT use TriToss with ANY Allfix message
conferences for return replies. Tritoss can import FILEFIND messages and
queries into your message base but you need tridog to find those messages
once they have been imported and re-export them back out into .MSG form
so ALLFIX can properly scan them.

FILEFIND.APL Template
In order to use the FILEFIND feature you have to make an adjustment to the
enclosed FILEFIND.APL template. Here is a portion of it:

Note the @overflow macro. It MUST be placed 33 spaces from the left margin
or DIRECTLY below the s in the @filesize macro. This is to compensate for the
starting line in the FILES.LST. Later on this 33 setting will be used in the
Spaces to Indent setting in the Fileecho manager setting.

FileFind file areas
This setting shows you your file areas as defined in Triman. This list is
made by running the following command: FCOMP 11 c:\tribbs\mwork for ver-
sion 5.11 and FCOMP 20 c:\tribbs\mwork for version 10.0.
FCOMP is the utility that comes with Allfix which compiles the files areas.
This command not only is used for the FileFind feature but it also compiles
TriBBS File Data Base with Allfix. Here is what the file areas window looks
like after compiling:

As mentioned earlier, when you ran FCOMP 20 c:\tribbs\mwork Allfix read the
FAREA.DAT info and compiled a File Data Base. Thus in order for Allfix to
directly write a file description directly into the FILES.LST you MUST set
the Use FDB setting to YES! The other settings can be set to your likings.
But the FDB must be set to Yes.
The Keep # setting is another nice feature of Allfix. Ever receive one
file and soon afterward receive a bug fix? Allfix can automatically del-
ete any previous release when a new release comes in by setting this to 1.
If you like to keep a months worth of nodediffs around you can set this
to 4 and Allfix will only keep that many nodediffs.
Any time Allfix writes in a description into FILES.LST you MUST REMEMBER
TO RUN ASCTOBIN!!!! The asctobin /all and makeidx /all should become a
very important part of the batch file that calls Allfix after it finishes
processing files. This will return the FILES.LST back to its binary
state.
Options
Under the fileecho system you also have a very important subheading. This
is the options for the Fileecho manager. The top half is recommended set-
tings. The bottom half is MANDATORY settings for TriBBS version 10.0.

Filter LongDesc No
The parenthises of 33 is what to set the Spaces to Indent for 5.11.
The Spaces to Indent MUST be set at 30 for TriBBS version 10.0 since it
expanded the FILES.LST to a maximum 45 characters per line the rest of
the settings should be set at default. Allfix will be able to import
High-Ascii descriptions right into FILES.LST for TriBBS version 10.0.
Again note: ALWAYS run Asctobin /all and makeidx /all at the end of your
allfix processing batch file. Make sure ALL your fileechoes are set to
USE FDB!!!

This shows an example of a fileecho set up to both send and receive files.
any file which is put in the d:\hatch directory (notice the *.* wildcard)
will be hatched out with the echotag 261_DOORS to the connected node(s).
Hatching is done as a means of interchanging files throughout a network.
The files you receive, for instance, are "hatched" by the party whose
echotag belongs to (i.e. Mark Goodwin will hatch files in the echotag
TRITOSS. All files in this fileecho will be sent through all proper
channels until it eventually arrives in your system. You also can hatch
out files, especially if you have a local file distribution network. All
you have to do is put the file in the directory D:\HATCH. When Allfix
f s is run the file will be hatched and an outgoing .tic file will be made.
This is the first process of the Seen-By lines.
This is fully explained in the ALLFIX.DOC.

The group manager's main function is to differentiate the fileechoes in
your system. The best way to put this is that it is to be used with
common preference more than anything else. As a sysop you may want to
specify several fileechoes under certain groups, etc. But the group
manager also has a very important role in that it is also used with
Allfix's Auto-Adding (registered) function. If you allow your uplink
in the node manager to auto-add echoes to your system, Allfix will
search for the mask in each group you have and apply it to the closest
match. In this example group 0 is set for *. This means Allfix is
being told that any new fileecho that is not listed in the fileecho
manager should be classified under this group with these particular
settings.
This is your basic setup for running TriBBS with Allfix. Should you
encounter any problems please don't hesitate to post a message to
Paul Lopez in the ALLFIX_HELP conference.

using .MSG Scan and reply and InterMail. Special thanks to Andy Knifel of
the E Street BBS for making this work :).

This batch file does EVERYTHING on LOPEZVILLE. It does file processing,
echomail processing and FILEFIND processing. FILEFIND and echomail proces-
sing on this board is done with GEcho and the .PKT interface for replies.
The lines with arrows are allfix related. Don't forget the importance of
running asctobin and makeidx on a constant basis!!!
Good Luck!!!!!!!
